Weekly Recap: It's December!

Last time I wrote, we had just celebrated Thanksgiving. Here's what happened next...

Monday our history lesson was about mountain men. It was so funny to see the girls twist up their faces and wonder why someone would live like that, while my boy's eyes got huge and he was enthralled.

Tuesday's literature was about General Conference stories again, specifically the plot being made up of a problem and solution. The kids helped create story maps. After school N decided she HAD to go Christmas shopping. We took the trampoline down for the winter. The computer was slower than ever..

Wednesday our science lesson was on the endocrine system. A tricky concept for younger kids, but they did great! M gave a presentation to the young women at church about scoliosis.

Thursday was geography, and we learned about plants and animals in South America. Each child picked a plant and animal in the country they are studying to learn more about. The computer would not work at all. In fact, I think after this day I booted it in safe mode to ensure all files had been copied to the external hard drive. Good thing I did, because when I booted it in safe mode again it was just as slow and unresponsive. I haven't turned it on since the weekend.

Friday we had an art lesson about the Christus statue and the 12 apostle statues carved by Bertel Thorvaldsen. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this was an especially meaningful lesson as his statue of the Christus means a lot to us. We went to a Christmas dinner at our church, which was full of great food and wonderful entertainment.

Saturday we tried to catch up on cleaning the house and getting ready for Sunday. M and J went to the Veteran's Home on Sunday. That night we watched the First Presidency's Christmas Devotional. It's one of my favorite things during the Christmas season, and a great way to start the month even if you aren't LDS!

In John 8:12 Jesus says, "I am the light of the world: He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." The church is encouraging people to follow this council again this December and serve others as Jesus would. You can find a daily video, service ideas, and a calendar to plan what you would like to do to care for others this Christmas season. We have been doing many things and are enjoying the good feelings that come with being disciples of Christ.

Because of a dead computer, I don't have a way to include pictures easily. Use your imagination!
